It’s a book thing

I just discovered The Book Depository, hadn’t heard of them before, but I found them through Amazon’s marketplace, so they must be OK, right? They are offering free delivery on any orders.

I ordered 2 books, worth over £15, from them last Sunday 8th. There was no free delivery and, annoyingly, they are sending them separately so I am paying over £5 for postage. Books were due last Thurs/Friday. Not yet arrived (15th).

    Hi,

I’m the managing editor of the (soon-to-have-a-facelift!) Book Depository website …

Just to clarify — if you order from http://www.bookdepository.co.uk we offer free delivery; if you order from The Book Depository via the Amazon marketplace then, unfortunately, you will pay postage …

Judy — your books should arrive very soon. If you have any problems with your order, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

That’s not so good. I guess the free delivery is a new thing. Keep me posted. I think mine are due at the end of the week. Nice to see you on Saturday.

Actually, in fairness, they’ve sent me a very apologetic email, blaming the Royal Mail for backlogs and offering to re-send the books if they don’t arrive this week.
Also I ordered via Amazon and comparing prices, I’ve surmised that Amazon makes them charge postage, so they drop their book prices for Amazon whereas if you order direct the book prices are higher, but there’s no delivery charge. So it works out pretty much the same…

OK, that’s good of them - I think there was another strike last week.

Mark, sorry I hadn’t seen your comment was waiting for approval - thanks for clarifying things.

And, in further fairness to them, one of the books has now arrived.

Mark, I posted my earlier comment of today without seeing yours and I’d worked out your postage policy…Thanks.
