Saving me from the cold

Really!

Hello 2009

I’ve been silent due to having no access to the Internet during the holiday, strange, but actually quite nice… Have taken so many pics that I’ve totally run out of hard disk space on my computer… have been to tea, skating with the little ones – we had four this year and it was Sarah’s first time, lots of walks, read Zoe Heller’s The Believers, no TV, no sales, the usual xmas cold, of course friends and family – and a bloody freezing house.

Birthday time

John’s Seventh birthday party.  A load of seven year old’s playing football.  They were impressive.

Cold

Yesterday walking out at the end of the day – me:  thermals head to toe, knee length wool socks, trousers, two long sleeve tops, wool tank top (do people still use that name?), cashmere polo neck, snowperson jacket, hat and gloves and wool boots. Person in front of me: jeans, t-shirt…

What’s been going on

Thinking about blogging, but as you can see not blogging.

A gave me a tent and new wellies for Glasto

Saw The Last Days of Judas Iscariot – a bit disappointing – a lot of loud banging.

Head / ear / sinuses still up the spout.

Reading Jpod by Douglas Copeland – very funny

I am about to go out & buy a Dyson.

Lots of friends have parents who are unwell and it’s been on my mind a lot.

Have been making the most of a three month free voucher for Lovefilm – am very impressed with the way it works… although not so impressed with my choice of films.

Being lazy.

Working a lot.

Listening to too much Radio Four.

Seeing old friends.

Not seeing old friends.

Wearing wedges.

In the weather

I rang up A yesterday who was brave and or mad enough to come with Sandy and I out for a walk in the rain and the wind, we all got soaked, but it was glorious…

Billing the environment

Orange have started charging for itemized billing… I’ve always been impressed by the fact that they didn’t charge, it’s even been one of the reasons for sticking with them. It’s a small thing, but small things count. Anyway so this guy tried to tell me the reason they were charging was to save the environment… Well I kinda lost my top, because if they were really doing things to ’save the environment’ I’d be happy, but he was telling me this, whilst I was holding my crisp white paper bill, with it’s pointless top page, which in turn had come out of a similarly crisp white envelope. And I’m carrying around my new mobile phone, which their policy encouraged me to buy when my old one still works, whose packaging, with it’s numerous plastic bags (even small ones count) is still hanging around the house. So I lost my top because I want these companies to start doing things environmentally and when they have a consistent policy I’ll be happy, but if they are going to use the ‘environment argument’ as an excuse to make more money out of me, I’m going to be angry.

The house is a shaking

I felt the earthquake… did you?

A car

I seem to have a car… S and I went to test drive it this morning – both of us thinking something was bound to be wrong.  For a few minutes I thought I heard a guy say the car wasn’t there yet, but it was and was actually in the condition I was told it was going to be in – a first in this whole saga – so yippee – doing a little dance – I have a car, well I don’t actually have it yet, but almost.  And yes there is a bit of me that is frustrated that I even need a car – but I do.

Looking good

I rang the car salesman this morning, just to make sure it was OK to get excited about the car….
