New Music
Been listening to demo’s (still at the Apple Store). Some good, some not. Ears hurt a bit. If you are in town over the next few days check out City Showcase – there’s lots of new music being played in shops – quite fun.

Dan Raza – what a great idea – and what an amazing voice. Just not going to get any work done.
gig coming up 4th September in London.
How bloody brilliant! By the second day all I could think, was why hadn’t I been before.
Friday: Kate Nash (just because it was early and easy), KT Tunstall (so made up for the gig at the Roundhouse), The Feeling (somewhere in the background), some Circus (to see M), Sinead O’Connor (impressed M by getting right the way through the crowd and she made me cry), Jimmy Cliff (great way to end the day bopping away). A trip to Shangri-La.
Saturday: Martha Wainwright (third row Pyramid stage), Seasick Steve (second row Pyramid stage), Crowded House (first row Pyramid stage – all wonderful especially the first two), Music Through Unconventional Means (Shlomo the human beatbox and friends including Martha and Martina Topley-Bird), The Last of the Shadow Puppets (special guest), MGMT (first two songs only), Amy Winehouse (last few songs from the sidelines and the loo), Massive Attack (I didn’t know I liked them).
Sunday: Black Mountain (because we were passing), Balkan Beat Box (bought the CD), Neil Diamond (wow, I was a kid again and the nicest of nice atmospheres), Goldfrapp (a bit squashed at the front, but good), Leonard Cohen (like 10 rows from the front – I am in love – he’s my man – one of the best gigs I’ve ever seen), The Verve (back of the front bit nursing a headache – incredibly professional with a fab lightshow, a fitting end).
Phew… what a weekend. And wait for it… I even enjoyed the camping…
I got tickets… it’s a bit of an anti-climax because after the mornings excitement – they still have tickets now at 7pm? Obviously, its lost a bit of its gloss. And not only did we get tickets, we seem to have double booked ourselves… amazingly enough whilst I was getting through on the phone, a friend of a friend of a friend, was getting tickets online. OK, so worst scenario is they cancel both sets, but I rang and they assured me they’d only cancel one – but I might ring again to double check before I get too excited.
Excuses excuses, but I’m still getting headaches and the buzzyness, which don’t make for being able to think straight or wanting to look at a computer screen. All very frustrating and I am going back to the doctor this week.
So playing catch up, what not to do with a migraine:
Go to a gig – I saw Laura Viers at Bush Hall – acoustic, which was appreciated.
Spend the afternoon out in the blazing sunshine – at the Innocent Fete in Regents Park – luckily there was some wonderful shade. It was ticketed this year so it wouldn’t be crowded, but it still felt crowded. We decided that what was needed was a trip to a proper English fete.
Waiting for hours at the Western Eye Hospital to get my eyes checked out.
Travelling on tubes and trains.
What was actually really good was going for walks in the park.
I have spent the day recovering from nine hours or so at Wembley yesterday. It was fun, but also very long and there is only so many times you can be told to recycle and switch off lights. I’m not sure about the sound at Wembley, yesterday it was incredibly loud and sometimes it was good and sometimes it was awful and at those times I was very tempted to ask the woman behind me with the earplugs if she had a spare pair.
Best were Paulo Nutini who was a revelation and was absolutely brilliant as were the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the consummate professional, Madonna.
Geri Halliwell introduced Duran Duran and got booed… need I say more.
I planned my teeth brushing trips very badly missing Keen and Kasabian, I would have much preferred to have missed Black Eyed Pees and Pussycat Dolls the latter a combination of Charlie’s Angles and Playboy which stirred the irate feminist in me.
Corinne Bailey Rae was nice as was John Legend – for some reason he was only allowed one song.
The press is right though in that there was no amazing inspirational moment of the day… and with jokes about performers arriving in private jets – there were lots of mixed messages around.
